The regulator history compounds the confusion: in England the profession has had three regulators in fifteen years (GSCC → HCPC in 2012 → Social Work England from 2 December 2019), so stale third-party content still tells employers to “check the HCPC register” — wrong since 2019. An employer or platform that checks only Social Work England has verified nothing about a social worker practising in Glasgow, Cardiff or Belfast.
