Overseas-qualified vets enter the RCVS register by one of two doors. A recognised degree registers directly: Europe — EAEVE-approved/accredited at graduation, but only until January 2029, after which only RCVS-accredited programmes are accepted; USA — AVMA-CoE-accredited at graduation plus an NBE/CCT/NAVLE score of at least 425 (post-1992); Australia — listed BVSc/BVMS/DVM degrees, or the NVE (2000–2019) / AVE (2019–); plus other listed countries on the RCVS accepted-degree pages. Everyone else sits the statutory membership exam. Post-Brexit there is no EU automatic-recognition right — although Ireland’s Dublin MVB is recognised “any date”. Where the degree was not taught and assessed entirely in English, the requirement is IELTS Academic 7.0 overall (7.0+ in at least three of four components, none below 6.5) or OET (veterinary) Grade B overall (B in at least three components, none below C+). Registration then processes in four weeks or less.
