The primary, non-substitutable check is an HCPC Register match on the specific protected title — e.g. “Clinical Psychologist,” not the bare word “psychologist.” BPS Chartered status (CPsychol) is a secondary, advisory signal only: a verification process must never accept CPsychol in place of an HCPC check, and must reject a bare-“psychologist” claim as unverifiable against a register because it is not a protected title. This is the single most important guard in the whole careers corpus against a false positive. Two failure modes to avoid: passing a Chartered-but-not-HCPC-registered person, and treating “on a psychology list somewhere” as a pass.
