Tomorrow’s Architects — the ARB education reform retiring Parts 1/2/3

✔ Verified by Verifera

ARB is replacing the Part 1/2/3 structure with a competency-outcomes model accredited by Academic Outcomes and Practice Outcomes. New Master's, Practice and Combined qualifications are offered from H2 2026; Part 1 accreditation ceases around 2027 and Part 2/3 accreditation ends by end of December 2028.

🔶 ARB is replacing the named Part 1/2/3 ladder with a competency-outcomes model — accrediting qualifications by what a candidate knows and can do (Academic Outcomes + Practice Outcomes) rather than the three-part structure. New ARB-accredited qualifications — Master’s-level (Academic Outcomes), Practice qualifications (Practice Outcomes) and Combined qualifications spanning both — begin to be offered from the second half of 2026. The last cohort of the current Part 2 qualifications begins September 2026; a separate deadline of September 2027 is when teaching is expected to have commenced on the new Level 7 Master’s-level qualifications (prescription of existing qualifications was extended to September 2027). Part 1 accreditation ceases around 2027 (ARB’s own pages disagree on the month — the schools FAQ says “from September 2027”, other transition text says “from December 2027” — treat the month as unsettled), and Part 2/Part 3 accreditation ends by the end of December 2028 as transition cover. From 2028 the registration requirement is an ARB-accredited Master’s-level qualification plus a Practice qualification (or a Combined qualification) plus at least two years’ practical experience. For ~5–7 years the register will hold people qualified under both frameworks, so treat “ARB-registered” as the stable fact. (The number of competency outcomes/areas and any practical-experience apportionment circulating in secondary sources are unverified and not asserted here.)
