Qualifying requires a GPhC-approved qualification via one of two routes, both roughly two years and work-based: (a) an integrated knowledge-and-competence qualification (e.g. the Level 3 Diploma in the Principles and Practice for Pharmacy Technicians), or (b) the Pharmacy Technician (Integrated) Level 3 apprenticeship, including its End-Point Assessment. Concurrently the trainee completes a minimum of two years’ work-based experience in the UK, Isle of Man or Channel Islands, under the supervision/direction of a pharmacist or pharmacy technician to whom they are directly accountable. The approved-course list moves — the GPhC re-recognises awarding-body diplomas for fixed periods (the Pearson BTEC diploma went through re-recognition in October 2025, with an approval period of January 2026 to January 2032) — so always check the live GPhC approved-courses list rather than a provider page.
