ARB vs RIBA — what’s the difference?
ARB is the statutory regulator and the legal register — registration is mandatory to call yourself an architect. RIBA Chartered membership is a voluntary professional-body credential on a separate roll. They are different credentials on different registers and must never be treated as interchangeable.

RIBA Chartered membership (the post-nominal RIBA) is a voluntary professional-body credential on a separate roll — not the statutory ARB register. A substantial minority of registered architects are not RIBA Chartered members, so the two must never be treated as interchangeable.
