Engineering Lead - Account Management

Overview

As Engineering Lead for the Account Management team, you guide a multi-disciplinary group spanning engineering, product, and people leadership to deliver the Current Account, Everyday banking experiences, and the supporting money-movement systems. You stay hands-on while shaping the technical roadmap and collaborating with PMs and Design to ship reliable, scalable features used by customers daily. You balance architectural decisions with team growth and cross-team collaboration to make Wise the go-to daily banking platform. This role blends strategic leadership with practical coding and system design to drive impact at scale.

Responsibilities

• Lead and develop the team, defining growth paths and well-being
• Write code, review designs/PRs, and drive features across backend, web, and mobile
• Own the team's technical roadmap, ensure reliability and manage tech debt
• Make architectural calls and guide system evolution
• Collaborate with PM and Design to prioritize and validate work
• Coordinate with cross-functional teams on money movement and API interactions

Key requirements

• Strong backend engineering background with hands-on coding
• Deep understanding of distributed systems, event-driven architectures, and microservices
• Experience owning reliability, scalability, and correctness of critical systems at scale
• Proficiency with JVM ecosystem (Java/Kotlin) and Spring Boot
• Experience leading engineering teams and delivering results
• Clear communicator able to explain technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders
