Payments Systems Manager

Overview

In this role you will own and optimize the end-to-end card payment environment across two brands and ~800 locations. You will act as the payments SME, overseeing terminals, gateways, loyalty and mobile integrations, and vendor relationships to ensure secure, resilient and commercially effective services. You will lead a small technical team and drive strategic initiatives, partnering with cross-functional teams to enhance the payment experience. This is a chance to shape scalable, compliant payment capabilities at scale.

Responsibilities

• Own end-to-end payment card processing across multiple brands and locations
• Ensure high availability, performance, security of payment services
• Oversee payment acceptance technologies (terminals, switching, gateways, acquiring integrations, loyalty, mobile apps)
• Manage strategic supplier relationships and vendor performance
• Define and govern SLAs, KPIs, and contractual obligations; lead service improvements
• Provide senior technical support and incident escalation for payment/loyalty systems
• Maintain operational docs and support models; ensure PCI DSS and P2PE compliance
• Lead delivery of payment-related projects and manage cross-functional stakeholders
• Translate business requirements into technical specifications; design solution architectures
• Own mobile applications and loyalty platforms from a payments/tech perspective
• Drive security efforts including P2PE across the estate; support audits and remediation
• Act as subject matter expert on payment processing, card schemes, acquiring, terminals, and fintech innovations

Key requirements

• Significant experience managing enterprise-scale payment processing environments
• Strong understanding of card payment ecosystems (acquirers, gateways, card schemes, switching, POS/terminals)
• Experience managing third-party service providers and vendors
• Proven leadership of technical teams
• Track record delivering technology and business change projects
• Experience translating business requirements into technical solutions
• Experience managing mobile apps and customer-facing digital platforms
• Strong incident management and problem-solving abilities
• Experience operating in PCI DSS-regulated environments
