Engineering Design Manager - Construction

Overview

As an Engineering Design Manager you will lead multi-disciplinary design input for major infrastructure projects, ensuring buildability, compliance and value. You’ll partner with clients and Project Managers to steer design quality across concepts to delivery, shaping solutions and coordinating consultants. This role sits in the Real Estate team, offering exposure to transport, defence, real estate and highways projects. You’ll influence outcomes through collaborative leadership and design excellence at scale.

Responsibilities

• Manage external design consultants under contract to ensure duties are fulfilled and escalate when necessary
• Lead multi-disciplinary design teams to deliver solutions to the required design level
• Evaluate and optimise designs and solutions
• Collaborate with technical, operational, maintenance and strategic stakeholders and design coordinators
• Liaise with clients, Engineering Managers, Project Managers, Contractors and consultants on scope, risks and changes

Key requirements

• Minimum 5 years of design and management experience
• Experience managing design through full project lifecycle across sectors and procurement routes
• Strong understanding of integrated design delivery and consultant performance management
• Knowledge and experience of Building Information Modelling (BIM) and common data environments
• Degree in Civil, Mechanical or Electrical engineering
• Experience with CAD (AutoCAD or Revit)
• Excellent communication skills with clients and staff
• Self-driven, results-oriented with good time and people management
