Engineering Design Manager - Construction

Overview

In this role you drive design delivery for large infrastructure projects, leading multi-disciplinary teams to produce buildable, compliant and innovative solutions. You collaborate with clients and internal stakeholders to ensure design integrity from concept to delivery, while managing external design consultants and project scope. The position blends technical leadership with strategic thinking to achieve high standards and client satisfaction. You will work across transportation, defence, real estate and highways projects, shaping outcomes at scale.

Responsibilities

• Manage contract with external design consultants and ensure contractual duties are fulfilled
• Lead multi-disciplinary design teams across the project lifecycle
• Evaluate and validate designs and solutions
• Collaborate with technical, operational, maintenance, and strategic stakeholders
• Liaise with Clients, Engineering Managers, Project Managers, Contractors and Consultants on project issues and changes

Key requirements

• Minimum 5 years of design and management experience
• Experience managing design across full project lifecycle and multiple sectors
• Strong understanding of integrated design delivery and consultant performance management
• Knowledge of Building Information Modelling (BIM) and common data environments
• Degree/HNC in Civil, Mechanical or Electrical Engineering
• Experience with CAD (AutoCAD or Revit)
• Excellent communication skills and stakeholder liaison abilities
• Self-driven, results-oriented, with people and time management capabilities
