Overview

As a Senior FX Cross Border Payments and AI Engineer, you shape innovative, cloud-native solutions for cross-border FX and custody. You will work within Citi FX Technology to deliver scalable, automated systems that support global operations and staff across multiple teams. You’ll translate payments needs into data-driven features and ensure robust, production-grade software. This role offers the chance to influence high-impact FX tech while leveraging AI tooling and low-latency practices.

Responsibilities

• Hands-on Java development for cross-border FX payments and custody solutions
• Design and evolve system architecture with stakeholders across sales, trading, quants, and product
• Develop new features, improve SDLC processes, and enhance product quality
• 3rd line production support within dedicated 24h teams
• Mentor junior engineers and promote best practices across the department
• Ensure compliance with Citi policies and maintain documentation for filings

Key requirements

• Master’s degree or above in STEM
• Proven software engineering experience with Java and Spring
• Strong understanding of ultra-low-latency development practices
• Experience with FX and production-grade applications
• Proficiency in SQL/databases and messaging systems (Kafka, Solace, MQ)
• Experience with cloud-native tech and CI/CD workflows
• Strong communication skills and ability to work across teams
• Ability to troubleshoot across software, hardware, and networks
• Knowledge of Openshift, Kubernetes, and KDB is a plus
• Familiarity with AI coding tooling (Devin, Claude code, Codex) is a plus
