Purpose of the Structural Engineer

The Structural Engineer is responsible for making sure buildings and infrastructure are safe, stable and capable of carrying loads throughout their lifespan . Design structures so they can withstand forces and to calculate loads and stresses to ensure materials are used safely and efficiently.

Key Responsibilities of the Structural Engineer

• Design and analyse steel structures, steel elements, and connections.
• Produce and review detailed engineering calculations (including hand calculations).
• Conduct site visits to assess existing structures, gather data, and provide engineering input.
• Collaborate with design, fabrication, and installation teams to ensure the project's success.
• Prepare technical structural reports, structural drawings, and specifications.
• Ensure designs comply with relevant codes (Eurocodes), standards, and regulations.
• Provide technical support during fabrication and site installation phases.

Essential Criteria of the Structural Engineer

• Degree in Civil and/or Structural Engineering.
• Minimum 5 years' relevant experience in structural steel design.
• Proficiency in STAAD Pro Structural Software.
• Experience with Tekla Structures is highly desirable.
• Strong knowledge of structural analysis and connection design.
• Competent in performing manual (hand) calculations for steel structures.
