Software Engineer

At Teleplan Forsberg, we specialise in solving complex positioning, navigation and timing challenges. Whether delivering trusted, off ‑ the ‑ shelf products or designing fully tailored solutions, we bring deep cross ‑ sector expertise and a commitment to innovation that keeps us at the forefront of PNT technology.

Our people are central to our success. We foster an environment where employees can grow, develop and thrive through hands ‑ on experience, meaningful opportunities and ongoing training. With accreditations that demonstrate our dedication to our teams and our community, we’re proud to promote a culture that values

diversity, inclusion and continuous improvement across everything we do.

Job Purpose

We are seeking a Software Engineer to work across a range of technical projects in the Positioning, Navigation and Timing (PNT) domain. You will work with machine vision, sensor integration and data processing in our Navigation and Optical Navigation products including MANTIS and OPTONAV.

Domain knowledge can be developed on the job, but a strong foundation in software engineering principles, system‑level thinking, and collaborative development is essential.

You will be involved in the implementation and maintenance of robust software components that form part of larger, long‑lived systems, alongside shorter proof of concept & integration tasks which build on these components.

This role is suited to an engineer with a strong STEM background and solid programming capabilities, who is comfortable working as part of a team to deliver solutions for some of the toughest environments.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain software components for complex engineering systems, writing clear, well-structured code for reuse, using appropriate programming languages and frameworks.
• Contribute to projects using rapid iteration cycles while maintaining high code quality and long‑term maintainability.
• Work as part of a multi‑disciplinary team, contributing to design discussions, code reviews and technical decisions.
• Debug, profile and optimise behaviour in complex or performance‑sensitive systems.
• Document designs, assumptions and interfaces appropriate to the complexity and lifetime of the project.
• Adapt skills across projects and technologies as business and technical requirements evolve.

Required Skills & Experience

• Strong programming ability demonstrated in one or more languages. We usually work with Python, TypeScript, C# & C++, often alongside Vue.js.
• Experience writing well‑structured code for complex systems, including hands‑on experience of object‑oriented programming.
• Solid understanding of software engineering fundamentals:
• modular design and interfacing
• code structure (separation of concerns etc.)
• debugging and testing strategies
• Ability to work effectively within a team‑based development environment, even if prior experience has been in more individual roles.
• Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills grounded in an engineering or scientific mindset, for example from qualification or equivalent experience in a STEM discipline such as Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics, or similar.
• Exposure to data processing, machine vision, or related fields, particularly in navigation, positioning or robotics.
• Familiarity with multi‑threaded, real‑time, or performance‑sensitive systems.
• Experience working with hardware‑adjacent software, sensors, and external data sources.
• Experience working across the full stack to develop desktop applications (Windows / Linux).
• Experience contributing to shared codebases in long‑lived engineering products.

Ways of Working

• Comfortable with iterative development and evolving approaches to solving problems.
• Willing to learn new tools, languages or frameworks as part of team‑based delivery.
• Pragmatic approach to engineering trade‑offs, balancing speed, quality and maintainability.
• Be a clear communicator with the ability to explain technical concepts to engineers and non‑specialists alike.

This role is:

• Focused on building & delivering capable software products and systems.
• Suitable for engineers who enjoy tackling complex technical problems.
• A general engineering role with exposure to multiple technologies and domains.

This role is not:

• Primarily a data‑science or analytics position.
• Limited to ad‑hoc scripting or standalone prototypes.
• A narrowly defined specialist role confined to a single technology stack.
• 25 days holiday + bank holidays
• Employee Assistance Programme
• Social events
• Pension salary exchange scheme
• Car salary sacrifice scheme
• Free parking

The successful candidate must be able to achieve NSV security clearance.
