As an experienced Senior Electrical Engineer, you will play a key technical role supporting the development of electrical and electronic systems across new model programmes and current engineering projects. You will take designs from concept and system architecture through detailed design, validation, release and production support. You will act as a technical authority for vehicle electrical systems, ensuring robust, cost-effective and manufacturable solutions are delivered, while providing practical engineering support to prototype and production vehicles.
We are looking for an experienced electrical engineer with a hands-on approach to engineering design and development and a strong technical understanding of electrical systems used within mobile off-highway or industrial products.
You will be a professional and technically capable engineer with excellent interpersonal and influencing skills and be comfortable working with different teams and suppliers, able to challenge constructively and push for change where required.
Above all, we are looking for someone who demonstrates professionalism, integrity and trustworthiness, with a genuine interest in vehicles and technology.
Lead the development of cost-effective electrical designs from Concept through to Production, including full documentation and technical specifications to fulfil requirements.
Take technical ownership of vehicle electrical and electronic architecture, including power distribution, harness systems, controllers, displays, sensors, actuators and associated electrical interfaces.
Develop, review and maintain electrical schematics, harness drawings, system documentation and technical specifications in accordance with engineering requirements and standards.
Define electrical system requirements and ensure appropriate component selection, cable sizing, circuit protection, connector selection, derating and design margins are applied.
Lead and participate in technical design reviews, ensuring design risks, system interfaces, technical decisions and actions are appropriately assessed, documented and closed.
Develop and support Design Verification Plans (DVP) and validation activities at component, subsystem and vehicle level to ensure electrical systems meet functional, performance and durability requirements.
Lead structured investigation and resolution of electrical issues arising during development, prototype build, production or field operation using appropriate diagnostic and root-cause analysis techniques.
Engage with suppliers on technical requirements, component selection, design development, validation, issue resolution and technical approval of electrical and electronic systems.
Follow relevant engineering processes and procedures, including Engineering Change Requests, Engineering Releases and Design Review sign-offs.
Provide technical guidance and mentoring to engineers, graduates and apprentices, and where required coordinate engineering activities to ensure project objectives, timing and technical deliverables are achieved.
Where necessary support Manufacturing and Purchasing with technical expertise to resolve issues, concerns or assess alternate proposals. (It is expected that this could be 10-20% of time).
Prepare and deliver progress reports against project plans.
Keep up to date with relevant technology developments in appropriate technical areas, developing skills and capabilities, and giving support and expertise to others as required.
Support a continuous improvement culture across the Engineering team, contributing to a high performing environment.
