We're recruiting for a growing software business developing bespoke applications used within law enforcement. They're looking for a Java Software Engineer to join their Birmingham-based development team, working across the design, development, delivery and ongoing improvement of enterprise software solutions.

Designing, querying and optimising SQL Server and MySQL databases
Working within Linux environments, including Red Hat / Rocky Linux

Contributing across the full software development lifecycle

What we're looking for

You'll ideally have commercial experience across:

Java
Spring Boot and/or J2EE

Linux

Experience with any of the following would be advantageous, but isn't essential:

Vaadin
GWT / GXT
HTML5
CSS
Broader full-stack development experience

We're particularly interested in developers who can demonstrate meaningful ownership of software development rather than purely maintenance or support work.

You'll need to be comfortable solving problems independently while collaborating closely with colleagues and customers when required.

What's on offer?

£45,000 – £50,000 salary
25 days' annual leave, increasing with long service
6% employer pension contribution after three months
Life insurance
Private medical insurance after qualifying service
Employee Assistance Programme including 24/7 GP access
Company mobile phone
Free onsite parking
Opportunity to work on specialist software with real-world applications
Long-term opportunity to develop within a growing engineering team

Security Clearance

Due to the nature of the customers and projects involved, UK Government Security Clearance is required for this position, and successful applicants will need to be eligible to undergo the relevant background-checking process.

If you're a Java Developer looking for a role where you can work across backend development, databases and web applications while taking greater ownership of technically interesting projects, we'd be keen to hear from you.
