Senior Structural Engineer

About the job Senior Structural Engineer

Salary: Negotiable, based on experience

Enjoy real responsibility, varied projects, and a team that values practical solutions and commercial sense from day one. At JMS, you'll work on everything from unique residential builds to multi-storey commercial sites worth up to £12m, handling client conversations and technical decisions instead of endless process.

JMS is known for efficiency, autonomy, and work that makes a difference – here, your designs get built, and your ideas shape communities.

What You'll Be Doing

• Deliver designs that actually get built – enjoy a varied portfolio, from bespoke homes and commercial buildings to historic renovations, retail spaces, infrastructure, and industrial projects.
• Engage closely with clients, architects, and contractors, shaping design decisions through proactive collaboration and clear communication.
• Manage your own team, workload and projects, supported by experienced engineers who let you lead.
• Apply technical judgment to solve problems quickly, not get bogged down in paperwork.

What Were Looking For

• Civil or Structural Engineering degree, ideally working toward Chartership.
• 6+ years UK design experience, with confidence in multi-material structures.
• Commercial awareness; understanding the balance between design ambition and real project delivery.
• Clear, practical communicator; willing to take the wheel and own your work.

What Makes JMS Different

• Freedom from micromanagement – genuine autonomy in your work.
• Varied, challenging portfolio: apartments, homes, commercial, and more.
• Practical mentorship, Chartership support, and a competitive salary.
• Work within a skilled, collaborative team committed to innovation and quality.
• Opportunity to see your designs built – not buried in bureaucracy.

Engineers who thrive in fast-paced, practical, and commercially minded teams will find this role rewarding.

Were proud to be an equal opportunities employer and welcome applications from all backgrounds.

Applicants must have the right to live and work in the UK. Visa sponsorship is not available.
