Mechanical Design Engineer

Design systems that are built, tested, and deployed in some of the world’s most demanding environments.

At G3 Systems, we deliver modular and containerised deployable infrastructure used in some of the world’s most demanding environments, from defence and government operations to complex remote deployments.

We’re looking for a Mechanical Design Engineer to join our Deployable Infrastructure Group, helping turn concepts into real-world systems that are manufactured, deployed, and used in the field.

With our integration facility located on-site, you’ll have the unique opportunity to see your designs come to life. Watching systems move from concept through build, integration, and final deployment.

What you’ll be doing

You’ll be involved across the full design lifecycle, working closely with engineers, project managers, and the supply chain to deliver practical, high-quality solutions.

You will:

• Own and develop 3D models and technical drawings for manufacture and integration
• Support design analysis and validation, including FEA where required
• Create and manage Bills of Materials and technical documentation
• Support the transition from design to build, ensuring systems are ready for manufacture and integration
• Work closely with the on-site integration facility, supporting builds and resolving real-world engineering challenges
• Collaborate with suppliers and internal teams to ensure designs are delivered as intended
• Contribute to technical proposals, tenders, and project delivery

Why this role is different

• Your work will be built and used, not just designed
• You’ll see your designs progress from concept to physical build on-site
• Direct access to the integration facility means you can solve problems in real time and continuously improve designs
• You’ll work on complex, multi-system integrations
• Projects are varied, no two are the same

What we’re looking for

• Degree in Mechanical Engineering (or similar)
• Around 3+ years’ experience in a mechanical design role
• Strong 3D CAD experience (Autodesk Inventor preferred)
• Experience working on designs through to manufacture or delivery
• Eligible for (or able to obtain) security clearance
• AutoCAD experience
• FEA experience
• Knowledge of BS / ISO standards
• Experience with BoMs and technical documentation
• Experience working with suppliers / RFQs

Who you are

You’re someone who:

• Enjoys solving practical engineering challenges
• Wants to see your work physically built and working in the real world
• Works well with others across multiple engineering disciplines
• Is comfortable working in a fast-moving, delivery-focused environment

We value different perspectives and are committed to building an inclusive team.

What you’ll get in return

• Opportunity to work on high-profile international projects
• A collaborative, technically driven team
• Exposure to real-world engineering challenges and delivery
• Career development within a growing, specialist organisation

Benefits include:

• 25 days annual leave
• Private Medical Insurance (BUPA)
• Salary sacrifice schemes (including eBike and electric vehicles)
• Access to wellbeing platforms

Location & Working Pattern

This role is offered on a hybrid basis, with time split between home working and our Portland, Dorset office at Osprey Quay.
