Electronics Engineer - Embedded Hardware

Location: Newcastle
Salary: Up to 50,000

KO2's client is an established technology business that designs and manufactures market-leading electronics equipment. Their R&D team is growing, and they're looking for an Electronics Engineer to develop embedded electronic systems for new and existing products.

The role

This is a hardware-focused design role. You'll own your design workstream from product specification through to delivery. You'll work across the full product development lifecycle, designing new products and services and supporting current and legacy products.

The team uses an agile approach so it can adapt quickly to business priorities and changing market needs. Projects need to be delivered on time, on budget and to specification. You'll use test data and risk assessment to make clear, well-supported recommendations.

You'll work closely with internal and external stakeholders. You'll also research new and emerging technologies and assess how they could be used in future products, so there's plenty of room to develop your skills as the business grows.

Key responsibilities

  • Design electronic systems and firmware that meet legislative and regulatory requirements
  • Own a design workstream in line with the product specification
  • Gather requirements from business stakeholders
  • Prepare project plans and detailed design drawings
  • Work with other engineering disciplines on product quality, including DFM, DFT and FMEA
  • Design for cost and efficiency
  • Lead product approvals, design validation and EMC compliance
  • Analyse test results, assess risk and make firm recommendations
  • Present technical findings to colleagues and stakeholders
  • Support current and legacy products
  • Research emerging technologies and assess their potential uses

Essential skills and experience

  • An honours degree in Electronic Engineering or a related subject
  • At least 3 years of proven experience in electronics or firmware development
  • Experience with schematic capture, PCB design, CAD tools and compilers
  • An understanding of EMC compliance, design validation and product approvals
  • Strong analytical skills, with the confidence to present findings and recommendations
  • Good communication skills and a collaborative approach
  • Opportunities to develop your skills and explore new technologies
  • A collaborative R&D team in an established, growing business
