Mechanical Project Manager

Ready to progress from supervising installations to managing complete projects? Nationwide projects

Dura Mechanical is looking for an experienced Plumbing or Mechanical Supervisor who is ready for their first formal project management appointment.

You'll work closely with Danny, our hands-on director, with regular discussions and site visits to help you understand our projects, clients and processes. As your confidence and knowledge of the business develop, you'll take greater ownership of project delivery, with support available when decisions need escalating.

You do not need to have previously held the title of Project Manager. You should already be mainly off the tools, managing engineers, coordinating subcontractors, ordering materials and attending site meetings.

Why join Dura Mechanical?

We are a growing Gas engineering and Plumbing contractor with over 20 years of industry experience, delivering projects nationwide.

We pride ourselves on organising jobs before the first day on site, giving engineers the information, materials and support they need. Our engineers feel heard, their decisions are respected, and they can take pride in the difference their contribution makes.

This role offers a clear route towards independently managing projects and taking greater responsibility for client relationships and commercial performance.

The role

A typical week will combine site visits with planning and coordination: reviewing progress, organising labour and materials, speaking with clients and site teams, resolving issues and preparing upcoming work.

You will typically oversee 5-10 projects, with teams of up to 10 engineers per project, depending on the size and stage of each job. Your responsibilities will develop as you become familiar with the business.

Key Responsibilities

• Coordinating multiple live projects and sites.
• Managing directly employed engineers, subcontractors and other trades.
• Planning labour, materials, equipment and site requirements.
• Monitoring project programmes, deadlines and key milestones.
• Attending client, contractor and site progress meetings.
• Developing into the main day-to-day contact for clients.
• Ordering materials and monitoring stock availability.
• Organising RAMS for each project.
• Identifying delays or site problems early and taking action to resolve them.
• Producing clear project progress and status reports.
• Taking progress photographs and maintaining accurate project records.
• Completing quality inspections and project checklists.
• Supporting the preparation of O&M manuals and as-fitted drawings.
• Managing snagging, commissioning, handover and final completion.
• Ensuring compliance with health & safety, client and company standards.
• Holding regular one-to-one and performance conversations with team members.

What we are looking for

• At least five years' practical Plumbing experience.
• Current or recent experience in a supervisory position, now mainly off the tools.
• Experience coordinating teams.
• Strong knowledge of commercial plumbing and mechanical installations, including the ability to resolve practical installation problems.
• Experience within healthcare and education environments.
• Experience preparing or reviewing risk assessments and method statements.
• Familiarity with health & safety legislation.
• Experience ordering materials and coordinating subcontractors.
• An understanding of project programmes, costs and variations.
• Strong client communication and leadership skills.
• A willingness to follow a development plan and act on constructive feedback.

Travel and benefits

• Company car and fuel card.
• Company pension.
• Nationwide sites, with travel depending on the project and where you live.
• Some projects require overnight stays. Accommodation is paid for by Dura Mechanical, with a meal allowance.
• We aim to discuss overnight requirements in advance so you can plan.
