MHST Operational Manager - North Locality

Overview

In this Band 8a role you will lead operational delivery for MHST expansion across Essex, shaping new teams ahead of a major recruitment programme. You will collaborate with MHST leadership to mobilise services in North Chelmsford, Braintree and Tendring, and ensure safe, effective, integrated care for children and young people. You’ll support EMHP trainees, onboard schools, and build sustainable, high‑quality teams. This is a formative opportunity to influence how expanding MHST services operate from the outset.

Responsibilities

• Supporting staff through periods of significant service growth and change

• Ensuring services are safe, effective and well integrated with the wider system

Key requirements

• Strong operational leadership and people management
• Experience of recruitment, HR processes and workforce planning
• Experience of managing substantial service development or change
• Strong project management and mobilisation skills
• Budget and performance management skills
• Ability to build relationships across professional boundaries
• Supportive leadership style with developing staff
• Excellent communication, analytical and problem-solving skills
• Understanding of mental health provision within schools and the wider child health system
• Ability to turn plans into delivery and maintain momentum
• Professionally registered, post-graduate qualified psychological practitioner or graduate-qualified healthcare professional, with management experience
