Practitioner Psychologist

Overview

As a HCPC-registered Psychologist at Potters Bar Clinic, you will deliver specialist psychology assessments and interventions within a multidisciplinary team on adult acute inpatient wards. You’ll contribute to a new pathway for young adults with complex trauma and lead bespoke psychological treatments aligned with trauma-informed care. You’ll work autonomously, participate in MDT discussions, and help develop staff through reflective practice and training. This role combines clinical service delivery with ongoing professional development in a supportive, care-focused environment.

Responsibilities

• Provide autonomous specialist psychology service as agreed with the MDT
• Conduct specialist assessments and deliver formulations-based interventions
• Lead or co-facilitate therapeutic groups on the ward
• Monitor and manage risk; update electronic records and liaise with responsible clinicians
• Attend ward rounds, case conferences, CPAs; prepare reports/discharge summaries
• Liaise with internal/external colleagues; complete recording/reporting tasks
• Facilitate reflective practice sessions for ward-based staff and contribute to training
• Contribute to service development, including the new pathway for young adults with complex trauma

Key requirements

• BPS recognised psychology degree
• HCPC registered
• Understanding of evidence-based psychological practice
• Experience applying psychology in a psychiatric setting
• Inpatient work experience preferred but not essential
