Lead Electrical Project Engineer (Site-based)

Overview

In this role you lead electrical construction for HV transmission projects, from design through commissioning, on site. You will act as the on-site technical reference, coordinating with project teams, subcontractors and clients to ensure safety, quality and programme commitments. You’ll draw on live substation experience to manage technical issues and stakeholder relationships, while contributing to tender input and handover documentation. This role offers influence across high-profile grid projects within a growing energy-delivery business.

Responsibilities

• Lead electrical construction activities across HV and transmission projects
• Support projects from design development through to commissioning and final handover
• Coordinate works within live substation environments
• Manage and support site teams and subcontractors
• Ensure installations align with engineering standards and approved designs
• Act as main technical point of contact for construction issues
• Collaborate with delivery, commissioning and design teams to maintain programme
• Support FATs, SATs and commissioning activities
• Review technical documentation and assist with handover packs and as-built records
• Identify and resolve technical issues during construction
• Attend client meetings and provide technical support throughout project delivery
• Contribute to tender submissions with practical construction input and methodology advice

Key requirements

• Strong experience delivering HV infrastructure or transmission projects in the UK
• Experience in live substation environments from 11kV to 400kV
• Authorised Person experience within DNO, TSO or private networks
• Good understanding of HV plant, switchgear, protection systems and substation construction
• Knowledge of UK safety rules and industry standards
• Experience managing subcontractors and site-based activities
• Ability to interpret engineering drawings and specifications
• HNC, HND or Degree in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline
• Full UK driving licence
• Desirable: Senior Authorised Person experience
• Desirable: National Grid, DNO or renewable energy project experience
• Desirable: existing network operator competencies and accreditations
• Desirable: previous experience leading engineering teams on large infrastructure projects
