Design Engineer

Overview

In this Design Engineer role, you contribute to robust civil and structural designs within a leading contractor's in-house team. You’ll produce calculations, checks, and drawings for temporary and permanent works, while engaging with clients and project teams to drive effective design delivery. The position blends technical design with client interaction and ongoing professional development in a collaborative environment. You will help shape safe, innovative solutions for large-scale infrastructure projects.

Responsibilities

• Produce design calculations, reports and technical drawings for temporary and permanent works
• Perform design checks and contribute to risk assessments
• Liaise with clients, project managers and construction teams to ensure efficient design delivery
• Collaborate with senior engineers to develop safe and innovative engineering solutions
• Support coordination of multiple workstreams and ensure quality control across projects
• Review designs in practice and resolve engineering queries
• Contribute to continuous improvement of engineering processes and documentation

Key requirements

• Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering
• A few years post-graduate experience in design engineering
• Experience producing design calculations, design checks and risk assessments
• Strong communication and client-facing skills
• Ability to commute to Watford
