CDM Principal Designer

Overview

As a CDM Principal Designer at AECOM you will lead pre-construction health and safety and CDM activities on major UK energy projects. You will champion a positive safety culture, advise clients and project teams, and ensure compliant delivery from design through construction. You’ll collaborate across the Environment & Energy SH&E team to add value, drive risk mitigation, and promote best practices that uplift communities. This role offers hands-on impact on large infrastructure programs in a global, inclusive firm.

Responsibilities

• Act as a safety champion for health, safety and the environment across projects
• Lead pre-construction activities, risk mitigation and design-to-construction transitions
• Produce and manage health and safety files and ensure value-driven delivery
• Provide CDM guidance to project staff and clients to ensure statutory compliance
• Collaborate with colleagues to foster teamwork and adherence to processes
• Promote SH&E culture and Life Preserving Principles across the business
• Support management systems implementation to ensure procedural compliance
• Advocate for flexible, blended working approaches and continuous improvement

Key requirements

• Design / engineering degree
• Experience in Overhead lines and HV projects
• Member of the Association of Project Safety
• NEBOSH National or General Certificate (or equivalent)
• Experience delivering Principal Designer duties on energy projects under CDM
