Senior Electrical Engineer - Overhead Lines (OHL)

In this Senior OHL Engineer role, you will lead technical design support for overhead transmission lines up to 400 kV and collaborate with the Transmission & Distribution team on high-profile UK projects. You’ll model and refine line routes, perform structural analyses, and prepare deliverables for multi-discipline programmes like the Great Grid Upgrade. You’ll engage with clients, contribute to feasibility, planning, and public consultations, and help shape robust, compliant designs that enable clean energy connections. Responsibilities

• Provide technical design support for overhead line projects up to 400 kV
• Lead multi-discipline design tasks and deliverables
• Contribute to feasibility studies and conductor thermal assessments
• Perform PLS-CADD modelling, line routing, and structural analyses
• Develop design criteria, sag-tension calculations, and damper/insulator recommendations
• Prepare reports, proposals, drawings, and presentations; conduct internal quality checks
• Support project execution, planning, and stakeholder/public consultation events
• Assist in writing proposals and outlining project scope, timelines, resources, and budgets
• Participate in large programmes like the Great Grid Partnership (UK) to deliver milestones

Key requirements

• Bachelor in Engineering or equivalent; electrical/power engineering preferred
• Chartered Engineer (CEng) with a recognized electrical engineering institution (e.g., IET)
• Experience delivering UK transmission projects for operators such as National Grid, SSE, SPT
• Overhead line engineering experience up to 400 kV
