In this Staff FPGA Engineer role, you will own and shape FPGA-based signal processing and control functions for advanced quantum systems. You’ll drive RTL design, verification, modelling, hardware testing, and system-level debugging, collaborating with electronics, software, and quantum engineering teams. You’ll tackle technically complex problems at scale, delivering robust FPGA solutions that enable larger, more capable quantum platforms. This is a hands-on, technically senior role with meaningful ownership and impact on cutting-edge quantum technology.
Responsibilities
Architect and develop critical signal processing and control modules for FPGA hardware
Lead RTL design and verification using SystemVerilog/Verilog/VHDL
Perform modelling, simulation, and hardware testing across the FPGA stack
Conduct system-level debugging with cross-functional teams (electronics, software, quantum engineering)
Provide hands-on hardware debugging using JTAG, ILA, oscilloscopes and lab equipment
Collaborate to integrate DSP blocks (DDC/DUC, DDS, FIR/IIR) and interfaces into FPGA solutions
Support verification with code and functional coverage to ensure robust implementations
Work with Xilinx UltraScale+ MPSoC platforms and relevant interfaces (JESD204B, ADC/DAC, DDR3/4, ethernet)
Contribute to ongoing optimisation and scaling of FPGA-based control and signal processing pipelines
Drive technical ownership and leadership within the FPGA team
Key requirements
10+ years hands-on FPGA development experience
Strong RTL design and verification using SystemVerilog, Verilog, or VHDL
