Overview

In this role you drive mechanical building services design and delivery for high-profile, technically complex projects on the Scotland electricity transmission network. You’ll work with cross-functional teams to shape early design through delivery, commissioning and handover, ensuring technical assurance and compliant execution. You’ll mentor engineers and collaborate with consultants and contractors to achieve high-quality outcomes. This position supports SSE’s transition to cleaner energy and offers a hands-on role with meaningful impact.

Responsibilities

Lead development, review and approval of mechanical building services designs, specs and scopes of work across infrastructure projects
Provide technical assurance during delivery, supporting construction, installation and commissioning
Identify opportunities to improve engineering solutions, manage technical risk, and implement best practices
Mentor and develop engineers within the team and share expertise
Collaborate with consultants, contractors and internal stakeholders to ensure compliant, high-quality outcomes

Key requirements

Significant experience in mechanical building services engineering for complex construction or infrastructure projects
Strong knowledge of engineering standards, CDM regulations and practical application
Ability to assess technical challenges, evaluate solutions and make informed recommendations
Excellent communication and stakeholder management across multidisciplinary teams
Degree in Building Services Engineering or related discipline
Chartered Engineer status or progress towards professional registration (advantageous)
