Overview

In this role you will join a multidisciplinary team to develop agentic AI for biomedical discovery and genotype-to-phenotype modelling. You will translate mechanistic biology questions into computational experiments, analyze genetic and multi-omics data, and build multi-agent systems that reason over literature and databases. This fixed-term post supports a strategic program at the Big Data Institute, aiming to advance understanding of disease mechanisms and collective bioscience knowledge. You will collaborate across disciplines to shape impactful, data-driven discoveries.

Responsibilities

  • Contribute to a strategic research programme on agentic AI for biomedical discovery
  • Formulate mechanistic biological hypotheses based on diverse data sources
  • Analyze genetic, genomic, clinical, and functional evidence to test hypotheses
  • Design and implement multi-agent systems for scientific reasoning
  • Develop agents capable of interrogating scientific literature and biomedical databases
  • Work collaboratively with cross-disciplinary teams to advance project goals

Key requirements

  • PhD/DPhil in a relevant field
  • Experience with hypothesis-driven biological research
  • Strong understanding of how causal and mechanistic knowledge is established in biology
  • Proven ability to apply computational methods to biological discovery using genomic, functional-genomic, multi-omics, or high-dimensional data
