Head of Alternative Provision Operations

Overview

In this leadership role you will steer the Transitional Education Service, directing the delivery of education for pupils outside registered schools. You’ll partner across schools, services, and external bodies to secure high-quality alternative provision and clear reintegration pathways. The role sits at the heart of Norfolk’s SEND reform agenda, focusing on vulnerable children with multiple barriers to education. You will shape strategy, manage a large team, and drive system-wide impact to help children flourish.

Responsibilities

• Lead the Transitional Education Service and oversee its large staff team
• Develop and implement strategy to secure education for pupils outside registered schools
• Influence and coordinate across a complex local authority system and external partners
• Ensure high-quality alternative provision with clear reintegration pathways to registered schools
• Collaborate with other services and cross-functional teams to support vulnerable children
• Maintain governance and oversight for service delivery and performance

Key requirements

• Experience leading large, complex teams in education or public sector
• Proven ability to develop and implement strategic plans
• Experience working with vulnerable children facing multiple barriers to education
• Ability to influence across multiple services and external partners
• Knowledge of SEND reforms and accountability inspections (Ofsted/CQC) is desirable
• Enhanced DBS clearance required
