In this role you will join the Engineering Department to help build a web-based Data Repository for HS2, enabling collection, management and sharing of monitoring data. You will contribute to a high-profile infrastructure project with long-term data legacy ambitions. You will work closely with researchers and HS2 stakeholders to shape technical solutions, data structures and robust, well-documented systems. The opportunity combines software development with impactful infrastructure research, using modern web technologies and data platforms.

Responsibilities
Design, develop and document a web-based Data Repository, including back-end services, APIs and front-end applications for uploading and downloading monitoring data.
Work with Python and/or JavaScript, FastAPI, SQL and time-series databases, Docker and GitHub.
Collaborate with the research team and HS2 stakeholders to translate data requirements into technical solutions.
Define common data structures and ensure the system is reliable, secure and well documented.
Deliver project milestones in line with the agreed plan.
Key requirements
Experience designing, developing and documenting web-based data repositories or similar systems.
Proficiency with Python and/or JavaScript, FastAPI, SQL and time-series databases.
Experience with containerization (Docker) and version control (GitHub).
Ability to work with research teams and external stakeholders to translate data needs into technical solutions.
Focus on reliability, security and thorough documentation.
