As Senior Motor Control Engineer, you design, develop, and test advanced motor control algorithms for PMAC, IPM, Induction, SynRM, and SRM. You build dynamic models in MATLAB/Simulink and related tools, validate performance, and support cross-functional teams to meet safety and quality standards. You drive novel algorithms and real-time embedded software work, contributing to traction-drive applications. This role blends research, validation, and practical implementation to advance Turntide's sustainable energy mission.
Responsibilities
Design, development and testing of motor control algorithms for PMAC (including IPM), Induction, SynRM, and SRM, plus vehicle control schemes
Develop dynamic system simulation models using MATLAB/Simulink, Simscape, and related tools; model motor, inverter, and system performance to target specs; create testing procedures
Research and develop high-performance motor control algorithms; conduct motor characterization and controller sign-off
Provide technical support to applications, validation, software, and sales; review requirements and specify design/test needs; document architectures and high-level designs; produce user guides and white papers
Develop software modules in C and Python; ensure adherence to quality and safety procedures; translate specifications into software
Ensure safe work practices and compliance with 5S; communicate findings, issues, and project status to internal customers
Key requirements
BSc (Hons) in Electrical and Electronic Engineering or equivalent, 2.1 or higher
Extensive knowledge of core motor types used in traction drive applications
Proficiency in vector control and modulation for VSIs; strong physics understanding of motor drives and vehicle applications
Basic understanding of power electronics and electrical laws
Extensive experience with MATLAB/Simulink and code generation tools; familiarity with MAB Modelling Guidelines
Experience with real-time embedded software development (C/C++), debugging on real-time systems
Experience with laboratory test equipment and dynamometers; experience in high voltage labs
Troubleshooting, problem-solving, and strong communication skills; willingness to travel within the UK and abroad
