Technical Director Electrical Engineer - Data Centres (Building Services)

Overview

As Electrical Technical Director for the Data Centres sector, you lead design and delivery of critical electrical systems to ensure efficiency, reliability, and scalability. You’ll steer a team of engineers, drive strategic initiatives, and collaborate with industry leaders to advance data centre technology. The role focuses on energy optimization, security, and integrating new technologies within a fast-paced environment. You will help shape the future of data centres while expanding client relationships and a global knowledge network.

Responsibilities

• Lead day-to-day management, vision, and leadership of the team
• Develop team spirit, resilience, and cross-functional collaboration
• Grow client relationships and strengthen WSP’s brand in UK and EMEA
• Meet budgets, support MEP budgeting, and seek performance improvements
• Collaborate with director and senior leadership on strategic initiatives
• Share knowledge across the global WSP network
• Drive profitable and sustainable work-winning with accurate forecasting
• Oversee team performance, pipeline, finances, and operations
• Build relationships with clients, developers, contractors, and architects
• Act as the client’s key point of contact and ensure excellent client care

Key requirements

• Chartered status through CIBSE and/or IET Engineering Council or willingness to pursue
• Electrical design engineering expertise across power distribution, generation, backups, and energy management
• Strong leadership and team management abilities
• Strategic vision with ability to align engineering with business goals
• Proven project management skills with timelines, budgets, and quality control
• Effective communication with technical and non-technical stakeholders
