Highways Engineer

Overview

In this role, you will help deliver highway schemes from concept to construction within an integrated WSP / Norfolk County Council team. You’ll work on live projects that shape Norfolk’s transport network, collaborating with experienced engineers, project managers and technical specialists. The role offers hybrid working and strong professional development to help you progress toward chartership. Responsibilities

• Develop and deliver highway schemes across the full lifecycle (feasibility, design through to construction)
• Produce high-quality engineering designs, technical documents, cost estimates and contract information
• Manage own projects/work packages to meet programme, budget and quality targets
• Collaborate with clients, contractors and multidisciplinary teams to achieve project outcomes
• Provide technical support and mentoring to technicians and junior staff while promoting safe, sustainable engineering solutions

Key requirements

• Experience delivering highway or civil engineering projects in consultancy, contractor, or local authority settings
• Knowledge of highway engineering principles, design standards and construction practices
• Experience using industry-standard design software (AutoCAD, Civil 3D, AutoTrack, MicroDrainage, InfoDrainage or similar)
• Strong communication and stakeholder management skills
• Proactive approach to professional development, health and safety, and supporting colleagues' growth
