Principal Electrical Design Engineer

Overview

As Principal Engineer in the water and wastewater team, you lead high‑quality design work across turnkey and engineering services contracts. You will ensure cost‑effective, safe, and constructible designs while coordinating across disciplines to deliver on time. The role combines hands‑on design leadership with mentoring, process improvement, and stakeholder engagement. This position offers impact at project scale in East Sussex with hybrid working and requires proof of right to work in the UK.

Responsibilities

• Produce design layouts that are economically viable and meet contract specifications
• Coordinate designs across disciplines to ensure smooth project delivery
• Prepare design documents, drawings, and technical reports
• Support proposals and provide design feedback to commercial teams
• Develop, monitor, and improve departmental procedures and processes
• Mentor and supervise staff, fostering professional development
• Ensure designs comply with health, safety, and environmental requirements
• Maintain project files, records, and customer satisfaction standards

Key requirements

• Strong knowledge of water and sewage treatment principles
• Experience managing staff in the design of water/wastewater plants
• Chartered Engineer or full membership of a relevant professional institution
• Relevant discipline Engineering degree or HND with extensive experience
• Ability to produce rational, economic plant layouts and assimilate complex data
• Broad understanding of mechanical, electrical, and process engineering in water/wastewater projects
• Good computer literacy
• A valid driving licence
• Right to work in the UK
