Overview

As Principal Mechanical Engineer in Stantec's Water team, you will lead mechanical design across major water and wastewater projects, from feasibility to commissioning. You’ll mentor engineers, drive technical excellence, and manage client relationships to deliver high-quality, sustainable solutions. This role supports AMP8 initiatives in the North West, shaping resilient infrastructure and environmental performance. Responsibilities

• Lead mechanical design across water and wastewater treatment works, pumping stations, and related infrastructure
• Deliver projects from feasibility through detailed design, construction support and commissioning
• Produce and review technical calculations, specifications, and engineering documentation
• Provide technical leadership across multidisciplinary teams to ensure safe, efficient, sustainable designs
• Mentor engineers and support capability development
• Collaborate with clients, PMs, contractors, and supply chain partners to achieve successful outcomes
• Support framework delivery, continuous improvement and business development

Key requirements

• Degree qualified in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline; Chartered or Incorporated Engineer (CEng/IEng)
• Strong experience delivering detailed mechanical design within the UK water sector
• Experience leading technical delivery on multidisciplinary projects
• Excellent understanding of water and wastewater treatment processes and associated systems
• Experience mentoring and developing engineers
• Strong client-facing, communication and stakeholder management skills
• Experience working with contractors and delivery partners
