Overview

Senior Engineer at WSP supports the Development Team in Cardiff, delivering civil infrastructure designs for development schemes across Wales and the UK. You’ll lead multi-disciplinary design work, produce masterplans and planning-support reports, and mentor junior staff while managing projects to budget and schedule. The role spans client liaison, fee proposals, and business development within a high-performing team. Responsibilities

Lead concept studies and strategy delivery from design through planning applications or construction drawings
Take financial accountability for project delivery to budget, programme and technical standards
Work on varied multi-disciplinary projects and liaise with local and national clients
Direct line management and mentoring of early career professionals to ensure technical excellence
Assist in preparing fee proposals and engage in business development activities
Support and maintain positive team culture and environment

Key requirements

Civil Engineering degree (preferably)
Chartered status or approaching Chartered
Experience in highway and highway drainage design
Post-graduate experience in a civil engineering environment
Ability to produce masterplans, site appraisals, planning reports, design calculations and construction drawings
Solid understanding of highway design and drainage principles
Experience with Civils 3D or PDS (or comparable software)
Knowledge of Highways England/DMRB and Local Authority design guidance
Experience with InfoDrainage and Water UK Sewerage Sector guidance; familiarity with design codes and technical agreements
Ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues at all levels
