Job title: Education and Employability Coordinator
Report to: Education and Employability Manager
Duration: 12 months fixed term, subject to extension
Hours: Full-time
Location: Wrexham, with travel required to North Wales constituencies
You will be joining us at an exciting time in our journey, helping us and the sector to support those who are forced to seek safety. With over 36 years’ experience, we are trusted by the communities we serve and are seen as the lead organisation in Wales for sanctuary seekers and refugees. You will work with amazing like-minded people - who strive to make a difference every day, and challenge hostile practices that limit people’s potential. Our Education and Employability project is expanding into North Wales, and this role will establish a consistent Welsh Refugee Council presence across the region, working closely with our internal Move On and Widening of Dispersal services, plus key local partners.
While our South Wales model focuses on delivering direct employability coaching and assessing clients for participation in Welsh Refugee Council programmes, the North Wales approach will be centred on identifying and engaging refugee and asylum-seeking communities across North Wales. This will be followed by building trusted communication channels and ensuring individuals are aware of, and able to access, existing education, training, employability and professional development opportunities available locally and nationally.
This will include supporting access to employment programmes, apprenticeships, further and higher education, vocational training, volunteering opportunities and specialist career pathways. The role will also facilitate workshops and events with external partners, covering topics such as entrepreneurship, self-employment, green careers, and professional re-accreditation. In addition, the postholder may work collaboratively with employers, training providers and other stakeholders to develop targeted work programmes with direct hiring opportunities.
The successful candidate will play a key role in strengthening employability and education provision for sanctuary seekers across North Wales, helping individuals to develop their skills, realise their potential and progress towards sustainable employment and economic inclusion.
In return, you’ll receive a decent salary, and very generous annual leave allowance. You’ll have opportunities to try out new ways of working and make changes to the way we work.
