Onsite Hardware Engineer, Southampton, 12 Month Fixed Term Contract

We are looking for an experienced Onsite Hardware Engineer to support critical IT infrastructure within a highly secure and operationally important environment in Southampton.

This hands-on role focuses on maintaining, diagnosing and repairing enterprise server hardware, primarily modern HP ProLiant platforms alongside Dell server infrastructure, helping to maintain system availability and performance.

As part of a wider technology refresh programme, you will also gain experience supporting legacy hardware during a planned transition period. The role suits someone who enjoys fault-finding, hardware repair and working directly with physical infrastructure rather than software or application support.

Responsibilities

Diagnose and repair faults on enterprise server hardware.
Perform break-fix activities, component replacement and preventative maintenance.
Support HP ProLiant and Dell server environments.
Work across server rooms, machine rooms and technical facilities.
Maintain hardware reliability and minimise downtime.
Assist with hardware upgrades, installations and equipment replacement.
Accurately document completed work and follow established procedures.
Collaborate with customer teams and wider support engineers to maintain service continuity.

Required experience

Proven experience in hardware engineering, server engineering or infrastructure support.
Hands‑on support and repair of HP ProLiant servers, including Gen10, Gen10 Plus, Gen11 or similar.
Experience with Dell PowerEdge server hardware.
Strong fault diagnosis and troubleshooting capabilities.
Experience replacing motherboards, CPUs, memory, RAID controllers, power supplies, storage devices and network interface cards.
Comfortable working in business-critical or high-availability environments.
Strong communication skills and a proactive approach to problem-solving.
