We’re supporting an innovative organisation in the search for a Service Designer . Joining a collaborative User-Centred Design team, you’ll help shape early-stage programmes where the challenge is often defining the problem before identifying the right solution. This Midweight Service Designer role would suit someone who enjoys working across disciplines, engaging with stakeholders, and bringing structure to ambiguity. You’ll work on a variety of projects spanning infrastructure, digital ecosystems, communications and emerging technologies, with plenty of opportunity to develop your design practice along the way.

What you’ll be doing

As a Service Designer , you’ll support the end-to-end design of programmes focused on creating positive impact across the UK’s infrastructure and technology landscape. You’ll conduct research, engage stakeholders, map services and systems, and help teams make sense of complex challenges.

You’ll contribute to discovery activities by planning and conducting interviews, synthesising findings, and identifying opportunities that can inform future decision-making. Working closely with senior colleagues, you’ll produce artefacts such as service blueprints, customer journeys, system maps, wireframes and prototypes to bring ideas to life and support discussion.

A key part of the role is facilitating collaboration between different groups. You’ll work with business stakeholders, researchers, engineers and technical specialists, helping translate needs, constraints and opportunities into actionable outcomes. You’ll design and run workshops, support co-creation sessions, and help move projects from discussion to decision.

Alongside project work, you’ll contribute to the ongoing development of the design practice, sharing knowledge, refining ways of working and helping embed user-centred thinking across the organisation.

What experience you’ll need to apply

  • Experience within Service Design, UX Design, Product Design, Design Research, Design Strategy or a similar field.
  • Experience conducting user research and stakeholder engagement activities.
  • Strong problem-solving and sense-making skills, with the ability to structure complex information.
  • Experience facilitating workshops and collaborative working sessions.
  • Confidence creating artefacts such as service blueprints, journeys, prototypes, flows or wireframes.
  • Ability to work effectively with stakeholders from different disciplines and backgrounds.
  • Strong communication skills and the confidence to build relationships internally and externally.
  • Commercial awareness and an understanding of how organisations make decisions.

What you’ll get in return for your experience

You’ll join a mission-led organisation where collaboration, learning and innovation are actively encouraged. Benefits include hybrid working from an Oxfordshire office (two days per week), 28 days’ holiday plus Bank Holidays, up to 10% employer pension contribution, annual bonus, and private healthcare options. You’ll be surrounded by experienced designers and specialists, giving you an excellent environment in which to develop your career.
