Commercial Debt/Insolvency Solicitor - NQ - 5 PQE

Finance litigation is one of those areas that sounds niche until you look at the work properly.

Banks, lenders, financial institutions, complex disputes, recoveries, insolvency issues, professional negligence, contractual arguments. In reality, it pulls together a lot of the things good commercial litigators already do.

There is currently demand in Glasgow and Edinburgh for lawyers from NQ through to around 5 years PQE who want to build more of a specialism in this space.

You do not need to arrive as a fully formed banking disputes lawyer.

A solid commercial litigation background could work very well, particularly if you have had exposure to lenders, financial services clients, insolvency-related disputes, recoveries or professional negligence. What makes this appealing is the chance to become known for something.

Not pigeonholed.

Known.

There is a big difference.

At NQ–5 PQE, you should still be broadening your experience, but you should also be starting to build a bit of identity around the work you are genuinely good at. This is the sort of area where that can happen.

You can still handle varied commercial disputes, still develop as a rounded litigator, but gradually become the person clients and colleagues turn to when the dispute has a financial services angle. That is a much stronger career proposition than simply getting better at carrying a bigger caseload.

For someone ambitious, commercially minded and technically strong, there are some very good options in the Scottish market right now.
