GSL Education is currently recruiting a dedicated and resilient Learning Support Assistant to work within a SEMH provision in the NE15 area of Newcastle .

The provision supports children and young people with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs , including pupils who may display challenging behaviour or have experienced barriers to engaging successfully with education.

This role is ideal for someone who is patient, confident and passionate about making a positive difference. Building strong, trusting relationships with pupils will be a key part of the position.

The Role

As a Learning Support Assistant, you will:

• Support pupils with SEMH needs within the classroom.
• Provide 1:1 and small-group support depending on individual pupil needs.
• Help pupils engage with lessons and overcome barriers to learning.
• Support pupils with their social and emotional development .
• Build positive and consistent relationships with young people.
• Use appropriate strategies to support pupils with challenging behaviour and emotional regulation .
• Encourage positive behaviour, independence and confidence.
• Work closely with teachers, SEN staff and other professionals.
• Help maintain a safe, structured and supportive learning environment.
• Follow safeguarding, behaviour and wellbeing policies at all times.

What We're Looking For

We would particularly like to hear from candidates with experience in:

• SEMH or SEND settings.
• Alternative provisions or specialist schools.
• Behaviour support or mentoring.
• Youth work.
• Residential or children's care.
• Sports coaching or community-based work.
• Supporting children or young people with challenging behaviour.

You will need to be patient, resilient and confident , with the ability to remain calm when faced with challenging situations.

Relevant qualifications are desirable; however, strong practical experience working with children or young people will also be considered .
