We're offering a fantastic opportunity for a General Building Engineer to join our team on-site at HMP Stocken—working on a secure, long-term contract where your skills genuinely make a difference. At Amey, we support His Majesty’s Prison and Probation Service (HMPPS), helping to keep prisons safe, secure and running smoothly. This is a hands‑on, varied role where no two days are the same.

HMP Stocken is a well-established, modern Category C prison located near Oakham, offering a structured, professional working environment with a strong focus on rehabilitation and skills development. The site benefits from a supportive and experienced facilities team, where collaboration and safety are at the forefront of everything we do. With a consistent pipeline of planned works and ongoing maintenance, it provides excellent job stability and variety, making it an ideal place for engineers who enjoy hands‑on work and want to build a long‑term career within a secure, well‑managed environment.

What you will do:

Working as part of the facilities team, you’ll carry out a mix of planned and reactive maintenance tasks, including:

General building maintenance and minor repairs across site
Supporting fire safety systems (extinguishers, fire doors, alarms)
Emergency lighting checks and testing
Water safety tasks (temperature checks, flushing)
Assisting with security systems such as CCTV and alarms
Managing jobs and updates through CAFM systems

This is a multi-skilled role, ideal for someone who enjoys variety and problem‑solving.

Prison Security Clearance will be required (Amey will support you through this process).

What you will bring:

Experience in general building maintenance or facilities management
Skills across areas such as fire safety, doors, alarms, lighting or water systems
Basic IT skills (for job logging and systems)
A practical, proactive approach with strong attention to safety
Job security – long‑term government contract
Career progression – develop into trade roles (Electrician, Plumber, Carpenter)
Fully funded training & development – including leadership programmes
