The Role

We are recruiting Autism Support Assistants for specialist SEN schools in West Drayton. You will be supporting autistic pupils—including non-verbal students and children with complex communication and sensory needs—in a nurturing, structured school environment.

What You Will Gain

This is not just a job—it is a launchpad for your psychology career.

You will develop real-world skills in:

• Autism-friendly communication strategies
• Emotional regulation and co-regulation techniques
• Positive behaviour support and de-escalation
• Sensory processing and regulation approaches
• Visual schedules and structured learning
• Alternative and Augmentative Communication (AAC)
• Relationship-based, trauma-informed support

And you will see first-hand how consistent adult support transforms a child's confidence, wellbeing, and ability to engage.

Your Day-to-Day

As an Autism Support Assistant, you will:

• Support pupils 1:1 or in small groups
• Work with non-verbal students using visual and communication aids
• Help with emotional regulation and sensory needs
• Encourage engagement in lessons and classroom activities
• Promote routine, structure, and independence
• Support smooth transitions throughout the school day
• Collaborate with teachers, therapists, SENCOs, and pastoral teams
• Be a positive role model for patience, communication, and resilience

Who We Are Looking For

We would love to hear from you if you have:

• A strong interest in psychology, autism, mental health, or child development
• Experience in care, youth work, mentoring, SEN support, or community services (not essential - attitude matters more)
• A calm, patient, and empathetic nature
• Emotional resilience and strong communication skills
• A genuine passion for helping children reach their full potential

No previous school experience? No problem.

Your attitude, empathy, and willingness to learn are what count most.
