The Role

Matthew Arnold School is seeking a proactive and reliable Caretaker to join our Site Team. Working under the direction of the Site Supervisor and Assistant Business Manager, you will support the day-to-day operation of the school site, including security, maintenance, repairs, health and safety compliance, contractor supervision and general site upkeep. You will help ensure our facilities remain safe, secure and well-maintained throughout the year.

Duties and Responsibilities

Maintain site security, including opening and closing buildings, security checks and alarm response.
Carry out general maintenance, repairs and minor improvement works across the school.
Inspect buildings, equipment and grounds, identifying and addressing maintenance and safety issues.
Keep the site clean, safe and well-presented through cleaning, waste management, grounds maintenance and winter gritting.
Support health and safety compliance, including fire safety procedures, equipment checks and record keeping.
Assist with deliveries, room setups, furniture moves and day-to-day site operations.
Liaise with and monitor contractors, ensuring work is completed safely and to the required standard.
Contribute to a safe, welcoming and efficient environment for students, staff, visitors and the wider school community.

Requirements

Practical maintenance, caretaking or site management experience.
Good DIY skills and a basic understanding of building maintenance.
Strong awareness of health and safety requirements.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Organised, proactive and able to prioritise workloads.
Good communication skills and a commitment to high standards of service.
