Associate Software Engineer

Associate Software Engineer | £50,000 - £60,000 | Remote

We are partnering with a globally recognised advanced technology leader — a pioneer in high‑performance communications and intelligent networking platforms for aerospace, satellite and large‑scale global connectivity. Built on world‑renowned engineering heritage, our client is at the forefront of next‑generation network design across terrestrial, airborne, orbital and deep‑space environments. Their work directly shapes critical infrastructure and industry‑defining innovation.

They are now seeking a driven Associate Backend Software Engineer to join their growing core engineering team — an exceptional opportunity to build your career alongside seasoned experts from top‑tier technology firms, working on high‑impact, cutting‑edge systems from day one.

The Role

As Associate Backend Software Engineer, you will contribute to the design, build, testing and maintenance of distributed backend services powering advanced network modelling and analysis. You will receive structured mentorship, clear learning pathways and hands‑on ownership of meaningful work, with scope to expand your technical skillset as you progress. Our client’s products evolve rapidly — you will be solving real engineering challenges, not just writing code.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop, test and maintain reliable, well‑structured backend services supporting large‑scale network and link modelling
• Assist in optimising system performance, parallelism and reliability across diverse compute environments
• Support senior engineers in migrating and refining workloads — including introduction to GPU‑accelerated processing patterns
• Help enhance core modelling algorithms under guidance, applying fundamentals of signal processing and mathematical logic
• Write clean, testable code; participate in peer reviews; diagnose and resolve system issues and bugs
• Document designs, workflows and processes; track progress against project milestones and support delivery timelines
• Apply and grow your knowledge of cloud infrastructure, containerisation and distributed data systems in daily work

What You’ll Bring

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Mathematics or a related technical discipline — or equivalent practical experience
• 0–2 years’ professional software development experience (graduate roles, internships and strong final‑year projects all welcome)
• Working proficiency in at least one compiled language: Go, C/C++, Rust or Java
• Solid grasp of core software design principles, version control (Git) and automated testing methodologies
• Basic understanding of distributed systems, network fundamentals or large‑scale data processing — academic or personal project experience counts
• Exposure to cloud platforms, container tools (Docker, Kubernetes) or scripting is advantageous
• Genuine curiosity, a willingness to learn, strong problem‑solving ability and a collaborative approach
• Essential: Must hold the right to work full‑time in the United Kingdom

Desirable (Not Essential)

• Introductory experience with GPU programming frameworks
• Familiarity with linear algebra, numerical computing or signal processing basics
• Technical portfolio, open‑source contributions or personal coding projects

Package & Benefits

• Competitive starting salary, structured review and progression framework
• Fully remote working across the UK — flexible hybrid options available
• Comprehensive private healthcare, pension scheme, generous annual leave allowance
• Performance‑linked equity options
• Dedicated professional development budget and time for training, certifications and events
• Inclusive, supportive engineering culture — questions encouraged, contributions valued

Location: Remote UK — candidates must be UK‑based and hold valid work rights

Start Date: As soon as possible following clearances
