Technical Sales Engineer

Location: Lye, West Midlands
Salary: Up to £40,000 per annum
Hours: Monday–Thursday, 7:30am–4:00pm; Friday, 7:30am–1:00pm

We are recruiting for a Technical Sales Engineer to join an established engineering business based in Lye.

This is a varied role combining technical sales, customer relationship management and business development. You will work closely with new and existing customers to understand their requirements, provide technical and commercial support, and develop accurate, competitive quotations.

Working alongside the Contracts, Engineering and Production teams, you will help turn customer enquiries into profitable orders, ensuring customer requirements are clearly communicated throughout the process.

Key Responsibilities

Handle customer enquiries by telephone, email and face-to-face meetings.

Understand, interpret and clarify customer requirements.

Produce technical layouts and costed solutions using CAD software. Training can be provided where required.

Prepare accurate, detailed and competitive quotations and tender submissions within agreed timescales.

Follow up quotations promptly to secure profitable business.

Develop and maintain strong product knowledge to provide effective technical advice.

Provide pre-sales technical support and product guidance to new and existing customers.

Ensure orders are processed efficiently, with accurate information passed to the relevant departments for design and manufacturing.

Keep customers informed of order progress and resolve any issues promptly.

Maintain accurate records of enquiries, quotations, orders and customer activity using Sage CRM.

Identify and pursue new business opportunities.

Build relationships with existing and prospective customers to understand their needs and develop future sales opportunities.

Work closely with Contracts, Engineering and Production to ensure customer requirements are met.

Attend customer site visits, shows and exhibitions as required.

Travel between company sites when needed.

The successful candidate will ideally have:

The ability to read and interpret technical drawings.

Experience with CAD software, such as AutoCAD, or the willingness to learn.

Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel and PowerPoint.

Experience using Sage 200 would be advantageous.

Strong communication and customer relationship skills.

Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.

The ability to troubleshoot problems and find practical solutions.

Good time management and organisational skills.

The ability to use initiative and manage multiple priorities.

A strong work ethic and a proactive approach to sales.

The ability to work effectively as part of a team.

Experience in a technical sales, engineering or manufacturing environment would be beneficial.

Working Hours

Monday to Thursday: 7:30am–4:00pm, with a 30-minute lunch break.

Friday: 7:30am–1:00pm.

The role will involve regular travel between sites, customer visits and occasional attendance at trade shows and exhibitions.
