* Withheld: one advertiser supplied more than 25% of this cell's annual-salary adverts, so its pay would describe that advertiser rather than the sector. A dash means fewer than 30 such adverts.

Method
- What is counted. Live adverts in the Verifera advert index on the snapshot date: adverts received from our job-feed partners that are still advertised and not a duplicate of another advert. One advert per duplicate group: adverts from the same advertiser with the same title (ignoring the location after it), the same pay range and the same source are one advert, however many towns they are listed in (this snapshot collapsed 528,669 repeats). The live-adverts figure therefore sits below the live-roles figure on our homepage, which counts each listing. Adverts held as individual WordPress job posts (about 2% of the index) are not yet included.
- Pay. Only adverts that state a base annual salary count. We use the midpoint of the advertised range (or the single figure given). Hourly, daily, weekly and monthly rates are excluded, never converted; so are commission and on-target-earnings (OTE) pay, and any range whose top is more than 2 times its bottom (this snapshot: 59,752 non-annual, 6,431 commission/OTE or over-wide, 6,157 outside £8,000–£300,000). Because hourly-paid roles are excluded, these figures describe salaried vacancies and run above pay across the whole workforce. Advertised pay is what employers offer, not what people earn.
- One advertiser cannot set a figure. If a single advertiser supplies more than 25% of a cell's annual-salary adverts, the cell's percentiles are withheld. Job-board placeholder names are not treated as one advertiser.
- Publication check. A measurement is published only if its national median falls between £32,000 and £52,000 (the ONS full-time median is about £37–39k, and advertised pay runs higher). Otherwise the previous measurement stays up.
- Weighted by feed. Our adverts arrive from several job feeds, and a feed that happens to state more salaries must not speak for the market. Within every national, sector and regional figure, each feed's salaried adverts are weighted so that the feed counts in proportion to its share of all the live adverts in that cell, not its share of the salaried ones. The n shown is the number of distinct salaried adverts, unweighted. A feed with no salaried advert in a cell cannot be represented in it.
- Percentiles. Medians and quartiles are computed from salaries rounded to the nearest £500, so each figure is a multiple of £500 and accurate to within £250. A cell shows percentiles only with at least 30 annual-salary adverts; its n is always shown.
- Regions. Taken from the advert's stated region, otherwise its town, and mapped to the eleven UK regions by the same mapper our job search uses. Adverts that could not be placed (565,709) appear in no regional row.
- Sectors. The sector our index assigned the advert. "Other / unclassified" holds adverts no sector could be assigned to.
- Change over time. Shown against the most recent snapshot at least 25 days older. Volumes reflect the adverts our feed partners send us, so a change can come from feed coverage as well as hiring demand; read pay changes with the n beside them.
- Not a labour-market statistic. This is a measure of advertised vacancies in one index, not the Office for National Statistics vacancy survey or Annual Survey of Hours and Earnings. For those, see ONS earnings and working hours.
