This role operates as part of the wider IPA Research team, reporting directly to the Director of Media Research and working alongside the TouchPoints Head of Client Service and the Head of Marketing & Data Innovation.
This is a multi-faceted role that includes the delivery of TouchPoints, the management of the IPA’s member surveys and representing member agencies at various JIC Technical meetings. Additionally, the Research Manager acts as an internal and external consulting resource on all aspects of conducting and interpreting market insight and research.
The Research Manager oversees the delivery and reporting of the IPA membership benchmark surveys. The Research Manager is also responsible for achieving high levels of agency response to these surveys in order to make the reports valuable.
One of the main roles of the Research Manager is the delivery of the IPA’s ground-breaking TouchPoints Survey. This requires exceptional project management and data checking skills to ensure smooth delivery each year. The Research Manager oversees all aspects of the “nuts and bolts” of the survey and must foster close working relationships with research suppliers.
In addition, the Research Manager will input into the development of TouchPoints moving forward by working closely with research partners to ensure we remain relevant to our subscribers.
On occasion the Research Manager deputises for the Joint Directors of Media Research at industry JIC meetings where required. The IPA is represented on the Boards and committees of all the industry currencies.
The Research Manager also attends IPA working group meetings where members are regularly updated on developments within the JICs.
The Research Manager also provides support to the All In steering group responsible for planning, developing and delivering the biennial industry initiative along with the AA and ISBA. Support would include ensuring the questionnaire is appropriate for IPA members and that the methodological approach is sound. The Research Manager would also review the data and report this to IPA members in to form of industry articles, reports and bespoke member reports.
The Institute of Practitioners in Advertising (IPA) is the trade body and professional institute for the UK's advertising, media and marketing communications agencies. We represent agencies of all sizes, from independents to global networks, providing training, standards, and support that help the industry attract, develop and retain talent, while championing the effectiveness and value of advertising to clients, government and the wider public.
Our work spans professional development and qualifications, industry benchmarking and best practice, and negotiation on behalf of member agencies with media owners and research bodies. Central to this is IPA TouchPoints, our flagship media consumption survey and the industry's benchmark source for understanding UK audience behaviour across media channels, used by agencies, media owners and clients to plan and evaluate campaigns. Joining the IPA’s research team means working at the heart of this data and the wider Joint Industry Currency ecosystem, collaborating with senior practitioners across agencies and shaping the research that underpins how the sector plans and measures media.
