Our people come from a wide range of backgrounds, each bringing their abilities and experiences to our organisation, helping us thrive and innovate together.
We are looking for enthusiastic Postgraduate Student Ambassadors, who are undertaking their studies on campus, to share your authentic experience with prospective students and their supporters.
The University of Edinburgh is a world-class organisation. We are a large University covering a wide range of activities. In Professional Services, we support the University's research and teaching, offering many career and role specialisms.
Being a Student Ambassador is a great way to get involved at the University, have fun and gain valuable skills. You're also helping prospective students learn why the University of Edinburgh is a great place to study.
Ambassadors will have opportunities to represent the University, their School and the student body to internal and external audiences. The work is always varied but will primarily involve opportunities to lead campus tours, on-campus and online events, peer-to-peer text chat, and student panels. As well as other activities that arise throughout the year. Ambassadors will receive specific training to support the activity that is expected of them.
The work is also flexible around your studies - there are no set hours per week or month. Whilst this work cannot offer a frequent income, it does offer valuable work experience. The pay rate for this role is £13.45 per hour. As the work is ad-hoc, an increment of 18.1% is applied to cover holiday pay.
People have always been at the heart of our work. Our people are at the centre of the University community and everything we do. We value colleagues with drive, determination and a passion for what they do.
The University of Edinburgh holds a Silver Athena SWAN award in recognition of our commitment to advance gender equality in higher education. We are members of the Race Equality Charter, and we are also a Stonewall Proud Employer, actively promoting LGBTQ+ equality.
Prior to any employment commencing with the University, you will be required to evidence your right to work in the UK. Further information is available on our right to work webpages (opens new browser tab)
The closing date for applications is Monday 21st September. Please note, once you submit your application, you will be sent an additional online application form to complete. This allows us to complete necessary Right to Work checks. If you do not complete this by the deadline, we will be unable to progress your application.
Unless stated otherwise the closing time for applications is 11:59pm UK time. If you are applying outside the UK the closing time on our adverts automatically adjusts to your browsers local time zone.
Interviews will be held week commencing 5th October 2026. If you are successful to interview you will be given the opportunity to select a range of interview dates and times that would suit you. If you do not complete this by the deadline given at that time, we will not be able to progress your application.
For all new Student Ambassadors attendance at a training session is mandatory.
For all on campus students: Mandatory training will take place in-person on Saturday 7th November 2026, between 10:00-16:30. This is the only training session available to on campus students and you will not be able to undertake any work as a Student Ambassador unless you complete this training.
Please note that additional training will be required beyond these sessions, details of this will be given at the time.
As a world-leading research-intensive University, we are here to address tomorrow's greatest challenges. Between now and 2030 we will do that with a values-led approach to teaching, research and innovation, and through the strength of our relationships, both locally and globally.
