Commercial Manager

Wates has a permanent Commercial Manager vacancy listed at Milton Keynes for a major construction project in Bedfordshire. The manager will direct commercial activity throughout the scheme and advise project leaders on financial performance and risk. The position includes leadership of the commercial team, with responsibility for developing colleagues and maintaining the controls used across the project.

The work covers:

• subcontractor management
• cost reporting
• cash flow
• forecasts

The manager will oversee variations and change control, support contract administration and maintain compliance with contractual requirements. Coordination with design, planning and operational colleagues is required, alongside maintaining contact with consultants, supply-chain partners and clients. Reporting to senior project and business stakeholders is another part of the remit.

Candidates need a record of commercial management on major construction schemes, sound contractual knowledge and experience leading teams. Wates asks for negotiation and communication skills, with the ability to handle competing demands on a complex project. Relevant qualifications in construction, quantity surveying or commercial work are desirable.
